Recent Photos

The girls and I are doing really well and looking forward to Daddy coming home next month! Here are some pictures from the last few weeks...

Mutton Bustin'

So sorry I've been horrible about posting here! I've been a bit busy and since Wade checks Facebook regularly, updating that has been my priority. You can click the title of this post for a link to one of my Facebook albums. These were taken about a month ago, when the girls were about 6 weeks old. I was at my mom's and she left me alone with the babies, her stuffed sheep, and my camera. Dangerous combination! :)

Babies Are Coming!

Tomorrow, I'm going to be induced! A friend suggested one last belly photo, so here is the 37.5 week picture. I don't have much else to say - I'm super tired and need to get my rest for the marathon event tomorrow. I will try to post baby pictures as soon as I recover and have a few spare moments.

No Vacancy

Well, I was hoping to post completely different pictures this week, but the girls have decided it's not time yet. I'm sure I can make it, though - I hear pregnancy doesn't last forever. So here's a picture of me at 37 weeks:

I don't think I look much bigger than last week, though it turns out I underestimated the size of the babies. At this week's sonogram, I was astounded to learn their weights. Hannah is approximately 6 lbs, 11 oz and Naomi is about 6 lbs, 9 oz. I'm carrying over 13 pounds of babies! No wonder I've been so tired. The doctor continues to be thrilled with how all three of us are progressing, though, so I am absolutely thankful for that.

This would have been a great week for the girls to arrive. They could have shared a birthday with their Aunt Mav, who turned 30 this week. Or, they might have been the best anniversary present Wade and I could have given each other to celebrate eight wonderful years of marriage. But alas, the girls have minds of their own. I'm excited to meet them whenever they come. I just hope I'm still able to remain upright if they hold off for more than a few days!

Slowing Down

Yes, that's me at 36 weeks. I really hope that next week I can post a picture of the contents of that massive belly! I still feel pretty well, but am astounded by just how difficult it is to maneuver with an abdomen that protrudes that far. I'm guessing there's at least 11 or 12 pounds of babies in there! I should have a better idea of their sizes after my next sonogram in a few days.

I'm pretty sure my body is revolting against me; in fact, I think it's on strike. I can't do much of anything anymore. I suppose this is a good thing because I really shouldn't be doing many of the things that I was doing until fairly recently (like moving my refrigerator and lying on the floor behind it so I could vacuum the condenser coils). I don't mean to be stubborn or stupid; I'm just used to the fact that I have to be independent when my husband is deployed. What I'm not used to is being pregnant with twins - whole new concept for me. I am learning to ask for and accept offers of assistance though, difficult as that is for me.

Speaking of my beloved husband, he sent me flowers this week for my birthday! They are lovely as you can see below. I was brushing my teeth when the doorbell rang late Monday morning. Expecting it to be FedEx or UPS, I answered the door, toothbrush still in my mouth - their delivery guys usually drop off the package, ring the doorbell, and run away. Instead I was greeted by a young woman holding this beautiful arrangement and asking if I was Emily. I attempted to communicate with her around the toothbrush and through the toothpaste foam erupting from my mouth while hoping that she would notice my gravid state and excuse my behavior. Sigh. I hope that at some point my sanity and rational behavior return.

All Ready (I think!)

As I mentioned yesterday, I finally got the car seats installed in my vehicle. It seemed pretty easy, but I wanted to have someone inspect them to be certain. I remembered hearing that your police/fire department could check them for you, so this morning I called my local PD. The call was routed to the city hall (I live in a tiny town) and the woman who answered said she'd have an officer contact me. I was expecting a phone call, but instead an officer showed up at my door about ten minutes later! He checked out the seats, told me everything was great, and nearly made me an offer on my Honda Element, he liked it so much!

With the car seats out of the way, I think that I have finished everything I wanted to do before the girls arrive (with lots of help from friends and family, of course). I feel like I'm ready, though never having been a mom before, I have no earthly idea if this is actually the case. I'm pretty sure my whole world is going to be turned upside-down in a matter of weeks (or perhaps days!) and I just don't know how to prepare. I have been praying that God would bring to mind things that I need to do and He has surrounded me with amazing people who all seem to think I'm ready. My body is definitely telling me, "It's time!" We'll see...

That's a HUGE Belly!

This is me at 35 weeks. Every time I think I can't get any bigger without bursting, I do! Our bodies are amazing. I'm still feeling pretty well, though I want to (need to!) sleep most of the time, it seems. I feel like I've had a great day when I can accomplish little things like installing the car seats and showering. Oh! And I even shaved my legs today! I think that's the last time I'll attempt that until after the girls are born. It was quite a chore. Probably would've been slightly easier if I hadn't been a rebel today and decided not to wear my support stockings which resulted in elephant-sized ankles. I think I've learned my lesson there. Just means I need to spend the rest of the evening on my new reclining sofa eating ice cream. Pretty rough, eh?

How to Leave Comments

So a couple of people have mentioned that they tried to leave comments and couldn't. I checked out the comment function and it does work; I just have it set up so that I have to approve your comments so I don't get spam about enlarging body parts I don't even have.

Here's how it works:

-At the bottom of the post on which you wish to comment, click the link that shows the number of comments (at present, all the posts say "0 comments").

-Type your comment in the white box with the header "Post a Comment."

-Click the drop-down menu next to "Comment As" and select a profile. I recommend using "Name/URL." Type your name (just use your first name if you prefer). You can leave the URL field blank. Click "Continue."

-If you are happy with your comment, click "Post Comment." A box will pop up that says "Word Verification" with some random letters. Type the letters you see in the box (this is another step to eliminate spam). Click "Finish."

-A message will appear telling you that your comment will be visible after approval. When I next sign in to the blog, it will alert me that there are comments for moderation. Once I approve them, your comments will be visible.

I just went through the entire process myself and it works, so hopefully you will find this helpful! Thanks for taking the time to check out the blog.

34 Weeks and Counting!

Welcome to my blog!

I'm 34 weeks pregnant with twin girls. My due date is mid-June, but my doctor doesn't think I'll go much past the end of May - yikes! God has blessed me with an extremely smooth pregnancy and I have enjoyed (nearly) every moment of it. In fact my obstetrician described it as a perfect pregnancy. I couldn't have asked for a better report!

The most difficult aspect is that I haven't been able to share every moment of this adventure with Wade, the proud Daddy who's currently serving in Iraq. I am thankful for the technology that allows us to communicate regularly and keep all of you updated with the latest news, belly pictures and sonogram images.

I've stayed active through most of my pregnancy and until last week was exercising regularly and working at Curves. I miss my Curves family and all the members; you've all been so encouraging, supportive and generous! I hope you'll be able to follow our progress via this blog and know that I'm looking forward to introducing you to Curves' newest "members."

Check out earlier posts for pictures of the nursery, my belly and our hero (Daddy) as well as sonogram images of the girls. Thanks to amazing Brooke who put her heart and hard work into designing this site and inspiring my foray into mommy blogging. I truly appreciate you, Brooke!

The Nursery

Suspecting an imminent invasion, the cats inspect the room.

The long-awaited nursery hutch/dresser/changing table. Fuzzi Bunz on the left, possessed cat in foreground.

Some friends from my childhood meet the next generation.

My mom painted this toybox and rocking chair for me when I was little and the prints decorated my nursery wall. The recliner is brand new and absolute bliss...zzzzzzzz

One crib for now - twins sleep better together.

The closet looks so cute and organized...will it last?

The girls are avid readers :)

Thanks for taking the nursery tour. Goodnight Star...

My Burgeoning Belly

The growth of my belly, beginning at 17 weeks (8 January 2009). I started showing around mid-December, but didn't get around to taking pictures of me in the babies' room until January. Here I am at 17, 23 and 34weeks!

A Work of Love

This painting, entitled "Two Plus Two," was created for us by Brandi Huber - friend, artist, labor coach and painter. Thank you Brandi!
